Clash of Champions Results (2019)

Alright, tonight is the night and the kickoff shoSw is under way. My Fantasy Football team did crap today thanks to Drew Brees going down with an injury, so lets hope my predictions for Clash of Champions have better luck. While watching a bit of Ride Along before the show I thought of another reason why Becky might drop the belt, that would be due to her recent engagement to Seth Rollins. This could also end up with Rollins dropping his belt to The Fiend, but we will have to wait and see how that plays out. Lets get this results post underway!

COC10

Cruiserweight Championship

Drew Gulak (c) vs. Lince Dorado vs. Humberto Carrillo

So apparently Lince Dorado just broke a sizable win streak held by Humberto Carillo so we will see if that gives him enough momentum to capture the belt tonight. Well after this one it appears they are not going to give any consolation to poor Lince after all of the jobbing out with the Lucha House Party and Drew Gulak will retain with a quick pin. Carillo really showed his stuff in this match and has a pretty impressive repertoire. One match over, and one incorrect pick. Looks like my woes from the terrible Fantasy Football day might continue.

Drew Gulak (W)

COC5

United States Championship

A.J. Styles (c) vs. Cedric Alexander

This match is also on the kickoff show, it will be interesting to see which way they go with it. My pick was A.J. to retain and I still feel pretty confident with that. They could definitely go with Cedric to hype some people up and get them to subscribe before the ppv starts though. It is so weird for Styles to be on the kickoff show, they really need to get him to the main event scene. A.J. ended it with a Phenomenal Forearm followed by a Styles Clash, after that the OC came out to help A.J. jump Cedric after the match. This is all in his home city as well which adds even more to the heat for the Club for this, we will be getting into the main show after this one. That will put me at 1-1 for the moment.

A.J. Styles (W)

COC7

Raw Tag Team Championship

Seth Rollins & Braun Strowman (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode

This is the natural choice for the match to kick the night off. Will also be exciting to see how the dynamic goes with Strowman and Rollins to see how that will affect the Universal Title match later tonight. I think it is obvious that they will drop the belts, but it is just a question of how they will do it. The finish was a fairly clean win for the new champs, Bobby Roode hit the Glorious DDT on Rollins after Strowman was tossed to the outside. He did hit Rollins a bit on accident by charging over Roode but they did not play into that too much. Did not seem like the way they decided to end it built much tension for the match later though, seems like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode

COC

Smackdown Womenโ€™s Championship

Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

The next match is the first of the two women’s championship matches. I fear that I will either get both of my picks for the women’s title matches wrong or possibly both correct. I went with Bayley & Sasha becoming the new Raw & Smackdown Women’s Championship duo after tonight with Bayley retaining and Sasha winning the belt from Becky in a shock match later tonight. I do not see it being a mix of the two, I definitely think at the end of the night it will definitely either be Bayley & Sasha or Charlotte & Becky reigning as champs. Lets sit back and see how it goes! Bayley won by taking off the bottom turnbuckle and slamming Charlotte’s face into it and then getting the quick pin. This does make me feel a bit better about my prediction for the match later between Becky and Sasha, but anything could still happen so we will have to see how it goes. That is 3-1, not too bad of a start!

Bayley (w)

COC8

Smackdown Tag Team Championship

The New Day (c) vs. The Revival

I got The New Day winning this one, so lets see if I can continue with my correct predictions. I feel like they will leave the belts on everyone in The New Day tonight, including Kofi. So this could be another one where I get everything right or nothing, much like I mentioned with the Women’s matches. Wellll, The Revival won this one and I think that could lead to Randy Orton also winning against Kofi later. Sad to see the belts leaving the waists of The New Day, but that will bring my score down to 3-2.

The Revival (w)

COC6

Womenโ€™s Tag Team Championship

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (c) vs. Fire & Desire

Alright so in this match I went with Fire & Desire becoming the new tag team champs. I hope for the sake of some more interesting stories in the future that it takes that direction. Bliss should be getting back to singles action and going on a title run before long. I think she is the best on the mic in the women’s division right up there with Becky, she can cut a promo like nobody’s business. Nikki hit Mandy Rose with the top rope swinging neck breaker and this strange duo will continue to reign atop of the division. That brings me to 3-3.

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (w)

COC9

Intercontinental Championship

Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. The Miz

I have The Miz in this match and hope they choose to go that direction since they really are not choosing to do much with Nakamura as the champion. Sami Zayn is still his mouthpiece apparently as he is coming out with a fake neck brace due to the chokeslam by The Undertaker on Smackdown. Sami called a portion of the match from the outside of the ring with a mic that the fans could hear. Nakamura was able to pull this one out with the help of Sami Zayn, I really don’t understand the dynamic between those two. I hope they are able to get something better going with the IC title than what has been happening lately. This brings me to a losing prediction rate at 3-4.

Shinsuke Nakamura (w)

COC2

Raw Womenโ€™s Championship

Becky Lynch (c) vs. Sasha Banks

After such a long string of incorrect predictions I definitely do not feel very well about my most bold of predictions which was this match and Sasha going over Becky. You never know though, and this match is about to be under way so we will find out shortly. In this one Sasha tried to take a page out of Eddie Guerrero’s book and tossed a chair in the ring as a diversion for the ref before hitting Lynch with another one and almost coming away with the win. Shortly after that Becky accidentally knocked the ref out with a chair and it turned into an all out brawl all throughout the crowd and the everywhere as if it were a falls count anywhere match. This all ended with Becky destroying Sasha with a chair in the middle of the ring and using the chair to apply an inventive disarm-her. It appears that the official ruling on this match was Sasha Banks winning by DQ, so I will be getting a positive prediction by technicality. I did think that Sasha was going to win the belt so it definitely did not go as I had guessed it but a win is a win I guess. That will bring me to 4-4.

Sasha Banks (w) by DQ

COC3

WWE Championship

Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Randy Orton

I went with Kofi to win and retain in this one but I am not as sure of that prediction now that The Revival have beaten The New Day earlier in the night. After a long and hard fought match though Kofi was able to retain and get the clean win with a Trouble in Paradise kick. Kofi has had an amazing run as champ and after tonight it will continue, if only he could do it with his brother from the New Day still as champs also. That will bring me to 5-4 on predictions.

Kofi Kingston (w)

COC4

Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan

My pick in this match was Erick Rowan by some sort of crazy interference or something that will continue the mystery angle that they are working. I could definitely see them just going with a clean win for Roman but I would love to see the story played out a bit longer. There are plenty of ways that they could make the plot thicken here tonight. The plot has most certainly thickened! Luke Harper has returned and helped Erick Rowan win the match, that was as exciting of a finish as I could have imagined. I am glad to see that they were able to work something out with Harper because he is a great wrestler and I look forward to seeing how the rest of this story unfolds. Well done WWE! That brings me to 6-4 on predictions with one more to go.

Erick Rowan (w)

COC1

Universal Championship

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Braun Strowman

My final pick for the night is Seth Rollins in a clean win over Strowman, but would love to see Strowman finally get a title run. This just does not feel like the way that they will build up to when he does finally get his time with the title, if they ever even let it happen. Holy crap, Braun just did a flying splash from the top rope, that was insane. If you missed it go check that out on YouTube, definitely worth checking out. After 4 curb stomps and even a Pedigree mixed in there, we see Seth Rollins pin Braun to retain the Universal belt. 7-4 for the night, not too bad, I will take it!

Seth Rollins (w)

It looks like another one of my predictions came right as well and The Fiend appeared to hit Rollins with the Sister Abigail followed by a Mandible Claw. This should set them up for a Hell in a Cell match which is going to be incredibly epic, definitely looking forward to that for sure. Thanks for reading everybody and hope to hear your reactions to the PPV!

Final Score = 7 correct 4 incorrect
